Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
The Biswa Bangla logo was removed on Saturday from the structure located outside Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake, and the installation was subsequently dismantled. The structure had been built during the tenure of the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal and stood near the stadium’s VVIP gate.
The removal came days after West Bengal Sports Minister Nishith Pramanik announced during the season’s derby match that the structure would be taken down by the new BJP government. While inspecting the stadium premises, the minister had criticised the installation and stated that it would be removed soon. The structure featured a lower-body sculpture with a football placed above it and the Biswa Bangla logo mounted on top.
The installation had originally been set up in 2017 ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup matches hosted at Yuva Bharati Krirangan. According to available information, the design had been conceptualised during the previous state government’s tenure. Workers were seen dismantling the structure and removing its components from the stadium premises during the operation on Saturday.
